Beauty creates communion. It unites onlookers from a distance, uniting past, present and future. Every expression of true beauty can thus be acknowledged as a path leading to an encounter with the Lord Jesus, "for from the greatness and beauty of created things comes a corresponding perception of their Creator” (Wisdom 13:5).
To celebrate the official opening of the Macao Catholic Culture Association’s brand-new office, the association has specially invited António Leong, National Geographic Photo Contest Winner, to jointly present the “Discovering Everyday Beauty” Photo Exhibition. The photo exhibition starts from July 2 to September 30, 2021 and will showcase a new set of photos each month for three months, including The Chapel of Our Lady of Penha, the St. Joseph's Seminary and Church and the St. Lawrence’s Church. The photographs illustrate the integration of Catholicism with local culture over the past centuries. In this way, we hope to rekindle attention to beauty in daily life.
When we see beautiful things around us, let us pause and appreciate all the goodness that God has bestowed upon all mankind.
梁舜堯 António Leong
António Leong, a native of Macao, fell in love with photography since many years ago. Rain or shine, António takes with him his small mirrorless camera every day as he strolls along the streets and alleys of Macau, capturing their unique beauty. From the well-known UNESCO Heritage Sites to the less noticeable alleys, and from the local inhabitants to kittens in the neighbourhood, they have all become the subjects of his photos.
António started to share his photos on Facebook in 2012 and created the Facebook page Antonius Photoscript. Through this page, António not only has the opportunity to participate in a number of photo exhibitions promoting Macao tourism around the world, but also has had the honour to cooperate with different charity organizations and artists in various types of photography activities, serving as an instructor and a speaker to share his photography techniques and experience.
